Store-bought strips and kiosk treatments use weaker gels in one-size trays, so results are uneven and sensitivity is common. We make custom trays from a scan of your teeth and prescribe a gel strength and schedule that fits you, so the gel stays on the enamel and off the gums.
How take-home whitening works
- We take a quick digital scan and fabricate thin, custom-fit trays
- You wear the trays with professional gel for a set time each day
- Most patients see a noticeable change within one to two weeks
- Keep your trays and touch up a few nights a year to maintain your shade
Is whitening right for you?
Whitening works on natural tooth enamel. It will not change the color of crowns, veneers, bonding or fillings, so we may recommend whitening before cosmetic work so new restorations can be matched to your brighter shade. We also check for cavities and gum recession first, since whitening over those can cause sensitivity.
Common questions
Will whitening make my teeth sensitive?
Some temporary sensitivity is possible. We minimize it by matching the gel strength to you and can provide a desensitizing gel for your trays if needed.
How long do results last?
With good home care and occasional touch-ups, results typically last one to three years. Limiting staining drinks and keeping up with cleanings extends them.
