Healthy gums matter beyond your mouth. Gum disease has been linked to heart disease, diabetes and other systemic conditions. At Livermore Dental Care we measure and track your gum health at every visit, and when we find disease we treat it early and thoroughly.

How we treat gum disease
Early gingivitis usually responds to a professional cleaning and improved home care. For periodontitis, we perform scaling and root planing, a deep cleaning that removes bacteria and tartar from below the gumline and smooths the root surfaces so gums can reattach. Afterward, periodontal maintenance visits every three to four months keep the disease from returning. Advanced cases may be referred to a periodontist for surgical treatment.

Common questions
Can gum disease be cured?
Gingivitis can be fully reversed. Periodontitis can be stopped and controlled, but the bone lost cannot regrow on its own, which is why early treatment matters so much.
