Dr. Gibson offers two levels of sedation to match your needs. Nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, takes the edge off and wears off minutes after your visit. Oral conscious sedation goes deeper, so a long or complex appointment passes in what feels like a short, relaxed nap.
Sedation can help if you
- Feel anxious or fearful about dental visits
- Have a strong gag reflex or difficulty getting numb
- Have sensitive teeth or a low pain threshold
- Need several procedures and would rather complete them in one visit
- Have had a bad dental experience in the past
Safety first
Before recommending sedation, we review your health history and medications. During your visit we monitor you closely. Both options we offer are well established, used safely in dental offices every day, and chosen with your comfort and safety in mind.

Common questions
Will I be unconscious?
No. Both nitrous oxide and oral sedation keep you conscious and able to respond, just deeply relaxed. Many patients remember little of their visit with oral sedation.
