It is an excellent choice for patients with significant anxiety, for lengthy procedures, or for completing several treatments in one visit. Dr. Gibson will review your health history to confirm oral sedation is appropriate for you.
What to expect
- You take the prescribed medication as directed, usually about an hour before your visit
- A friend or family member must drive you to and from the office
- We monitor you throughout your appointment
- The effects fade over several hours, so plan to rest for the remainder of the day
Oral sedation combined with nitrous oxide
For some patients we combine oral sedation with nitrous oxide for an even more comfortable experience. We will talk through the options at your consultation and tailor the approach to you.
Common questions
Will I feel anything?
The treated area is still fully numbed with local anesthetic. Oral sedation relaxes you so the sights, sounds and length of the visit fade into the background.
