Modern porcelain mimics the way natural enamel reflects light, so a well-made veneer is indistinguishable from a real tooth. Dr. Gibson designs each case individually and works with a skilled dental laboratory to match shade, translucency and surface texture.
Veneers can correct
- Deep stains that do not respond to whitening
- Chipped, worn or uneven edges
- Small gaps between front teeth
- Teeth that are slightly crooked or rotated
- Teeth that look short or small
The veneer process
Treatment typically takes two or three visits. At the first, we design your new smile, prepare the teeth by removing a very thin layer of enamel, take a digital scan and place temporary veneers. The laboratory then crafts your porcelain. At the final visit we try in each veneer, confirm you love the look, and bond them permanently.
Caring for veneers
Veneers are cared for like natural teeth: brush twice a day, floss daily and keep up with cleanings. Avoid using your front teeth to open packages or bite very hard objects. With good care, porcelain veneers commonly last ten to fifteen years or longer.
Common questions
Do veneers damage your teeth?
A small amount of enamel is removed so the veneer sits flush and looks natural. This is conservative compared with a crown, and the veneer then protects the tooth surface.
How many veneers do I need?
Some patients need one veneer to fix a single damaged tooth. Smile makeovers usually involve six to ten upper teeth, the ones that show when you smile. We will recommend what achieves your goal with the least treatment.
